Looks like the little people are about to call it a day.

The reason I'm doing all of these little people shots is to practice using artificial light. This was really hard for me to get the way I wanted it. The building is just an empty shell about 4 inches square and to get what I wanted I needed to black out all of the windows except two. Then I set a little platform (popsicle stick) to act as the floor for the little couple, who stand about 3/4" tall. I put an orange gel on my speedlight and positioned the light shooting up inside the building ... strong enough to cast the silhouette, but not so strong as to blow out the highlights of the 'apartment.' All of that led to another balancing act to light the outside of the building without washing out the silhouette. Ultimately I ended up blending two shots in photoshop... one of the building's facade and one of the scene inside. The silhouette however is genuine.

I probably spent the better part of two hours on the shot, but I'm pretty happy with the end result. And I'm continuing to learn a lot about modifying artificial light.

We're embarking on another year of presidential campaigns. With the Iowa caucuses past and the Republicans coalesced behind their one clear choice, the Democrats can focus on a known opponent. It looks as though the campaigning has gone negative already as Barack and Mrs. O go after the little people vote.
